Sarah Sullivan has the honor of being a Professor of English at Mission College in Santa Clara, CA, where she also serves as a Professional Learning Co-Coordinator with a focus on equity pedagogy. Sarah has taught students in reading, composition and critical thinking courses at Mission since 2010. Before moving to the Bay area, Sarah taught for seven years in her home state of Massachusetts. Sarah earned a Masters in Language and Literacy from Simmons College in Boston, MA and a Bachelors of Arts in English from Colgate University in New York. Sarah is passionate about professional learning and believes that all educators have a responsibility to intentionally engage in the praxis cycle - critical self-reflection, intentional learning and applying that learning to transform teaching in order to better serve our precious students and transform the world through justice. In addition to amazing 3CSN professional learning in Habits of Mind, Threshold Concepts, Equity Project and BSILI, the Leadership for Curricular and Transformation Institute, Sarah has engaged extensively in Reading Apprenticeship and other equity-focused pedagogy approaches. Along with an amazing team of equity-minded leaders, including students, Sarah has engaged in deep equity and transformation work at Mission College, including designing and facilitating an Equity Pedagogy Community of Praxis program that has reached 90 full and part-time faculty members from 20 departments! Sarah lives joyfully, with her little house tiger, Fiona and neighborhood puma, Boo Boo, deep in the redwoods of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains! Please reach out at sarah@3csn.org
