In spring 2020, when colleges had to quickly transition online, 3CSN's annual peer educator conference, "Tutor Expo," had to be canceled. The 3CSN team promptly replaced the conference with the Wayfinding Online "Peer Educator Power" series (originally called the Learning Assistance Series). A small team of tutors and faculty members offered weekly online workshops designed to support the peer education community as we all transitioned online and navigated the COVID crisis together. Each workshop focused on a different skill, discussion, or successful practice that could be useful in creating powerful online learning assistance. In addition, the team developed a "Skittlz for Peer Educators," which evolved into "Peer Educator Power."
The series and design lab have expanded into a vibrant community of practice. Sessions are held each Friday from 3 - 4:30 p.m. PST, and peer education professionals from different colleges and organizations host each workshop. Workshops may be hosted by teams of tutors, Supplemental Instruction Leaders, coaches, peer mentors, faculty, administrators, classified staff, etc. These sessions highlight successful practices, robust discussions, and/or collaborative design spaces. We share our collective expertise and strengthen our peer educator community.
