Northern California Learning Assistance Project Sharing Event #2 (10/27/17) – Skyline College

 

Faculty, coordinators, staff, instructional aides, and student leaders:

Please join us for a 3CSN Learning Assistance Project (LAP) event for Fall 2017: Professionalizing Learning Assistance and Building a Statewide Network!  Come share best practices and discuss how to create a wider learning assistance community.  Topics will include:

  • How Learning Assistance Programs support guided pathways at CA community colleges
  • Focused discussion on professional development for peer leaders
  • Establishing advisory committees for Learning Assistance Programs on your campus
  • Leveraging our LAP network: Association of Colleges for Tutoring & Learning  Assistance (ACTLA) and other state/national organizations

This event will also serve as a lead-up to Tutor Expo 2018!

Greater Orange County Learning Assistance Project Sharing Event (10/20/17) – Santiago Canyon College

Calling all tutoring, supplemental instruction, and learning assistance (broadly) coordinators, directors, and others connected to postsecondary tutoring within the greater Orange County region! Join us for a morning of discussion, networking, and sharing to advance our community of practice. Topics will include:

  • Tutor Training
  • Preparing for Tutor Expo ’18
  • Leadership Training for Coordinators/Directors
  • The Role of Tutoring in Guided Pathways and Integrated Planning
  • Ways we can support each other’s programs (strengthening our community of practice)

Morning refreshments will be provided, and parking will be free. More details will be posted and emailed to registered participants.

Greater Orange County Learning Assistance Project Spring Sharing Event — Saddleback College (3/10/17)

Calling all educators connected to tutoring, supplemental instruction, and learning assistance! The spring Orange County LAP event will showcase the tutoring program at Saddleback College.

Tutoring coordinators, faculty, tutors, and tutorial staff are encouraged to attend!

Morning refreshments will be provided. Please park in LOT 7. A parking permit will be emailed to all registered guests. The event will take place in the LRC/LIB 314. For a map of the campus, please click here.

Learning Assistance Project (LAP): Networking and Professional Development Event — Mesa College (10/23/15)

WHO

Teams from each San Diego and Imperial Valley Campus should attend:

  • The Basic Skills Coordinator
  • Tutoring Coordinator(s) from different Tutorial Centers on your Campus
  • One-to-Two STRONG tutors/campus, who you could coach to be a presenter at Spring 2016’s Tutor Expo at San Diego City College on March 11th through March 12th (more information provided during this event)

WHAT

3CSN’s newest Community of Practice (CoP): The Learning Assistance Project (LAP). 

WHY

LAP’s mission is to learn and discuss about how to best Professionalize the field of Tutoring, which means we want to develop:

  • A Common Language for Tutoring Terminology
  • A Clearinghouse for the Different Tutorial Organizational Practices from Across the Region and State
  • Best Practices in Tutor Training
  • Regional and Statewide Events that Will Enhance a Growing Tutor and Tutoring Coordinator Network

Some of LAP’s Beliefs are:

  1. Tutors are educational professionals
  2. Tutor training should be rigorous, practical, and sustainable
  3. Instructors and tutors have different yet equitable roles
  4. Tutoring is about student empowerment
  5. Tutoring contributes to student success
