Would you like to improve your students’ success? This interactive workshop offers participants hands-on practice with Reading Apprenticeship routines, a series of easily adaptable strategies that can be quickly integrated into (and customized for) any classroom instruction with all levels of students.

  • 70% of our community college students assess into Basic Skills, and many of them struggle with the assigned readings in our courses.
  • When college students don’t read with understanding or avoid reading academic texts altogether, they are less likely to successfully complete our courses.

Reading Apprenticeship (RA) helps instructors support students across the disciplines and levels to become motivated, strategic, and critical readers, thinkers, and writers, to develop positive literacy identities and to engage with challenging academic texts. Reading Apprenticeship draws on instructors’ expertise as discipline–based readers and on students’ untapped strengths as learners. Participants will join in an interactive workshop centered on embedding RA routines into their courses across disciplines; understand the importance of implementing Reading Apprenticeship routines as an essential component of deep learning and student success; and connect with interdisciplinary fellow practitioners.
