The Introduction to Culturally Responsive Training and Learning (CRTL) workshop gives participants an opportunity to engage in activities and learn tools that will support their efforts in reducing equity and opportunity gaps and improving student success outcomes. Facilitators, Arnita Porter and Paula Brown will introduce CRTL modules on Race and Culture, Mindsets, Learning Barriers, and Social Capital and demonstrate how equity-minded practices support efforts to provide equitable outcomes for students across disciplines and in the delivery of services. The guided activities will assist participants in reimagining their students from a strength-based perspective in order to improve students’ sense of belonging, foster engagement, and expand their knowledge networks that lead to improved success. Finally, presenters will share how colleges are utilizing CRTL to address disparities and achieve goals outlined in their student equity and college success plans. This regional event is open to instructors, counselors, classified staff, administrators, and all who are interested in building capacity for equity work.
