Equity in Action: Praxis Sessions: Book Groups for Equity

Thursday, 9/17, 10 AM – 11 AM

In this session, Erik Armstrong (College of the Sequoias) , Kyle Hull (Gavilan), and Nicole Bryant Lescher (College of the Redwoods) model and share some of the work they have done as a book group reading Feldman’s Grading for Equity, focusing on the inquiry questions, “how can a book group disrupt the transactional relationship with knowledge and tools for equity work, and how did this work for us?”

Civic Dialogues Series Session 1: Democracy and Higher Education

 Friday, 9/18, 11 AM – 1 PM

Dr. David Scobey, Director, Bringing Theory to Practice

Each weekly session of the series is two hours in length, from 11am to 1pm. During the first hour our guest speaker will share their topic and address your questions. This will be followed with a facilitated lunchtime discussion designed to help you consider how these ideas or models could be practiced on your campus or in your classrooms.

Learning Assistance Hour:  The “Think Aloud and Paired Problem Solving” (TAPPS) Strategy

Friday, 9/18, 3 PM – 4 PM

In this highly interactive session, participants will learn about and experience a strategy that encourages students to pair up, make their thinking visible, and think through sticky problems together. We will read, discuss, and pair up together, so come ready to get involved. An optional half-hour for further exploration will follow the session.
