Leveraging Community in Challenging Times – A Message from Our Executive Director, Dr. Deborah Harrington

Dear 3CSN Community,

As concerns over COVID-19 continue to increase, not only in California but around the world, we are moving into the next phase of response, in alignment with updated guidance from both the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and the California Department of Public Health. We want to be clear that we do not have all the answers, but as a teaching and learning organization, we are making our best efforts to be responsive to the field and to support each other– students, faculty, classified professionals and administrators– as we navigate this difficult and uncertain time together.

With this in mind, beginning next week we will be offering a series of Zoom online workshops focused on creating a sense of community in online environments that will support student engagement and retention as well as educator identity and provide opportunities to dialogue, share, build and strengthen knowledge, and engage in productive struggle together.

These sessions will range from the practical (Zoom 101, Canvas 101, peer review) to student engagement, equity, and retention. We will also offer sessions dedicated to online tutoring and advisement. Please check your inbox for an email inviting you to join us for these upcoming Zoom sessions.

In addition, we have begun populating a community resource padlet and welcome your contributions. You may access it here: https://padlet.com/events16/d8z07lxk73in
Please feel free to add or email any resources you feel would be useful to ask@3csn.org.

We are so grateful to be in community with all of you in this time of uncertainty. The collective innovation, heart, and dedication in our network is truly humbling.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any ideas, questions, or need support.

In community,

dlh

Deborah L. Harrington, Ed.D.
Executive Director
California Community Colleges’ Success Network (3CSN)
