Literacy and Community at the Heart of 4th Annual Reading Apprenticeship Conference

On May 3rd and 4th, 160 faculty, staff, students and administrators gathered joyfully at the Fourth Annual Reading Apprenticeship Conference, “Literacy at the Heart of Institutional Change.”

Day 1, Friday, began with a warm welcome from Nika Hogan, 3CSN Reading Apprenticeship and Threshold Projects Coordinator, Strategic Literacy Initiative/WestEd’s College National Coordinator, and Associate Professor of English at Pasadena City College, and opening remarks by Lauren Servais, 3CSN Coordinator and English faculty at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Attendees then participated in full-day workshops designed to offer an opportunity to explore the Reading Apprenticeship Framework in some depth before engaging in the concurrent sessions offered by practitioners on Saturday.  (Review the program here).  This was followed by a reception that offered participants the chance to mingle and share their learning with colleagues.
