On Friday, March 16th, the 3CSN Equity Project introduced Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) to an eager group of 18 Cuyamaca College English faculty as part of their equity project. The group began by exploring their individual stories, which led to conversations about equity, cultural humility, and focusing on students as individuals. CRTL practices were discussed followed by learning barriers such as unconscious bias, microaggressions, and stereotype threat.
The faculty participated in lively discussions about a case study, reimagining their students, and planning to incorporate CRTL practices into their classroom. Participants remarked that they “especially enjoyed the group work,” found the day “very informative,” and exclaimed, “That’s exactly what we needed!”
