On Friday, August 22nd, the Habits of Mind work group of the Student Success Committee
launched its campus-wide initiative with an exciting opening day event. A variety of campus constituents–managers, classified staff, faculty, and students– told stories about how they became engaged with Habits of Mind. We provided some background, and gave
everyone in the room the opportunity to share their stories with a partner. The event closed with a video featuring a student from our printing program sharing how her habits of mind enabled her to succeed in the workplace. After the main event, we offered six breakout sessions, each one planned and facilitated by a team of classified member, student, and faculty or manager on topics like persistence, collaboration and listening with empathy. In our collaboration breakout session, we discussed strategies for supporting collaboration in our classrooms, learning centers and offices. A survey we conducted a high level of interest in follow-up learning activities in the coming year. We’ll be planning monthly offerings.
